Richard Linklater is one of a few filmmaker’s whom I look forward to each and every project they release. Off the top of my head that list includes, Paul Thomas Anderson, Wes Anderson, Spike Jonze, David O. Russell, Quentin Tarantino, Edgar Wright and a few others that aren’t popping to mind currently. Linklater has always danced with Hollywood, in the way Steven Soderbergh does. Making some mainstream films mixed in with some personal ones.
With Boyhood in his rear view he’s gearing up to remake ‘The Incredible Mr. Limpet’ which currently has quite a comedic cast already attached. The title role will be played by Zach Galifianakis. Jon Hamm is in talks to join as the film’s villain. Also joining them are Danny McBride, Sarah Silverman in unknown roles.
The film will also feature live action with animation mixed in like the original. Linklater has his crew of Femke Wolting and Tommy Pallotta, who made ‘Waking Life’ and ‘A Scanner Darkly’ doing the rotoscope animation on Mr. Limpet. Rumor has it that the animated characters will feature the voices of Kevin Hart, Keegan Michael Key and Jordan Peele.
Production may begin in the fall or early next year depending on Linklater’s schedule. A release date has not been announced.
