It’s been rumored for a while but it’s now official Quentin Tarantino’s next film is going to begin production in January. Not surprisingly the film has landed at The Weinstein Company. The Weinstein’s have distributed all Tarantino films from Pulp Fiction to Django Unchained.

The Weinstein Company had the following to say in their press release:

The Hateful Eight will be distributed by The Weinstein Company, and will be released next fall, the company announced in a press release Wednesday.

We are incredibly excited to begin production on ‘The Hateful Eight,’ as we know this picture will be as innovative, brash and of course fun as all Quentin projects prior.

There is, quite simply, no other filmmaker like him, and we are as proud as ever to continue this partnership that started over 20 years ago.

The Weinstein’s also stated in their press release that the film will be the widest 70-mm film release in more than 20 years.

The Hateful Eight takes place in Wyoming, shortly after the end of The Civil War, a group of strangers including bounty hunters and ex-soldiers get caught inside a hotel during a blizzard.

The journey of the film has been a drama in it’s own right. The original version of the script leaked last year by an agent of one his trusted potential cast members causing Tarantino to state:

That’s a betrayal, but not crippling because the agent didn’t end up with the script. There is an ugly maliciousness to the rest of it. I gave it to three actors: Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, Tim Roth. The one I know didn’t do this is Tim Roth. One of the others let their agent read it and that agent has now passed it on to everyone in Hollywood. I don’t know how these fucking agents work, but I’m not making this next. I’m going to publish it, and that’s it for now. I give it out to six people and if I can’t trust them to that degree, then I have no desire to make it. I’ll publish it. I’m done. I’ll move on to the next thing. I’ve got ten more where that came from.

At this point he said he wouldn’t make it and proceeded to file a lawsuit against Gawker for distributing it online. Eventually, he softened and dropped his suit. This was around the time of the live read he directed at LACMA with his cast of: Samuel L. Jackson as Major Marquis Warren, Kurt Russell as the cruel bounty hunter John Ruth, Tim Roth as the English “bit of a fop” Oswaldo Mobray, Amber Tamblyn as Daisy Domergue, Walton Goggins as Chris Mannix, Michael Madsen as John Gage, Bruce Dern as Confederate Gen. Smithers, James Parks as stagecoach driver O.B., Denis Menochet as the Frenchman Bob, Dana Gourrier as Minnie, Zoe Bell as Six Horse Judy and James Remar as Jody.

During the LACMA live read he mentioned that he was still reworking the finale of the script, confirming that he was still possibly intending to shoot the film.

In July, Kurt Russell confirmed that he would be a part of the film and that Tarantino planned to begin shooting early in 2015.

Then about two weeks ago, there were unsubstantiated rumors that Jennifer Lawrence was in talks for a role which, as yet, haven’t amounted to anything official.

It’s great news that Hateful Eight is coming together after so much uncertainty. I can’t wait for the official casting to begin.
