New Hope for a Sequel To David Fincher’s ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’?

Variety is reporting that there may still be hope for a sequel to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

In a recent interview, director David Fincher alluded that not all hope is lost on seeing an american film version of The Girl who Played With Fire and The Girl who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest. In the interview Fincher told Swedish site Afton Bladet (via Film Divider, which provided translation) “I think because (Sony) already has spent millions of dollars on the rights and the script, it will result in something,” in regard to Steven Zaillian’s screenplays. “The script that we now have has huge potential. I can reveal that it is extremely different from the book,”

This could be great news to some, dreadful to others. I rather liked Fincher’s film and thought Mara and Craig put in solid performances. I haven’t read Stieg Larsson’s books so the changes aren’t as concerning to me, but I understand why some might be leery.

What are your thoughts? Did you enjoy Fincher’s first film enough to see the sequels?
