The Hollywood Reporter posted an interesting piece on Serena, the film Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper made prior to Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle. It seemed that the film has been collecting dust on a shelf somewhere but it seems the film had been shopped around and no studios wanted to touch it for the price that the production company, 2929 Productions, was looking for. One top buyer desribed the film said “The film was so edited, it made no sense.” Another described it as “uneven, particularly Lawrence’s [descent into madness]” as the childless wife of a timber baron.” 2929’s sister company, Magnolia, became the default distributor at this point.
Considering this, it’s not at all surprising that the film will not receive an Oscar push this year. Instead, it will get a VOD release on February 26th with a small theatrical push on March 27th.
Take a look at the trailer? Do you think it’s going to be as bad as it’s been described?
