Boy, that was quick. After only just releasing the first issue this week, it was announced that Wytches will be developed into a movie. Deadline is reporting that Regency has procured the rights for the comic for Brad Pitt’s Plan B to make into a feature film. Plan B is no stranger to horror movies, having given us the world spanning zombie feature World War Z. Wytches writer Scott Snyder and artist Jock will act as executive producers for the project alongside Pitt.
I reviewed the first issue of Wytches a few days ago and thought it was phenomenal. It was a great starting point that left me wanting more. While we’ve only caught glimpses of some creatures (I’m not even sure the actual titular characters have been shown yet on page) the book is very atmospheric. It makes you feel a little uneasy, like you know something bad is going to happen, but you just don’t know what or when.
While no cast or crew decisions have been made yet it’s always fun to speculate. I’d love to see someone like Scott Derrickson or James Wan or Ti West get their hands on this. Those are directors that I feel would give a movie like this the right vibe.
What do you think? Is it too early for any studio to have already locked this property down? Only time and the future box office receipts will tell.
