Sources have confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Michael Fassbender is in early talks to play Steve Jobs in the biopic to be written by Aaron Sorkin and directed by Danny Boyle.
It was originally reported that Christian Bale was a lock for the role. Aaron Sorkin was quoted as saying that they wanted the best actor and that actor was Bale. Let that be a lesson to Sorkin – don’t say anyone is set until you have ink drying on the contract.
THR reported earlier this week that Bale had completely dropped out of negotiations for the film. That was too bad, as many were wondering just how the dynamic would be between Bale and Seth Rogen, who is reportedly up for the role of Steve Wozniak.
With Christian Bale Putting this project in his rearview mirror and Leonardo DiCaprio reportedly being approached but eventually turning down the role as well, the search is now on for an actor to officially take on the movie.
I think Fassbender would be a great pick. He brought real gravitas to the role of Magneto in the X-Men films that he’s been a part of. He was terrific as David in Prometheus. And everything else he’s done, from Inglorious Basterds to Shame to 12 Years A Slave has been riveting. I even liked him in The Counselor.
If there’s a short list for actors to take this role, I hope Fassbender is at the top of that list.
