Recently, it was announced that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be starring in the upcoming DC comic movie Shazam as Black Adam. New Line Cinema will be releasing the film and with their close working relationship with Warner Bros, one would assume it’s not out of the realm of possibilities that Black Adam could appear in a future Justice League movie. However, a tweet released earlier this week seems to confirm that Shazam will be a standalone movie that will not be tied in the current DC movie-verse.
The tweet from @dickfundy stated that with Goyer and Snyder in charge, DC couldn’t make anything as entertaining as the “Fast” movies in which The Rock has played a central part in the last three movies. The Rock responded to the tweet by saying: @dickfundy I guaran-damn-tee we’re gonna have bad ass fun w/ Black Adam. (Its a NL/DC property). #Independence See u at the junket homie.
Now, one could read between the lines and take the #Independence as a sign that New Lines will go a different route with Shazam in that they will have more freedom to tell a different story but it wouldn’t be so bad to see Black Adam taking to the Justice League either. I think this is a huge misstep by DC. Shazam is a great character with a great backstory that should be included in the canon with the rest of DC’s stable of characters. Thoughts?
