Forgotten Film Friday
by: Lizzy Ferro
Okay, I’ll be upfront here, I have no idea if this film even counts – I know that people do not talk about it enough for my liking, I know many people who have never seen it (time to reevaluate your childhood, pal) and I know it’s the best movie ever. Okay, maybe not ever, but it’s pretty fucking fantastic. Plus, it’s a gloomy and rainy day here in New England so this film is only fitting.
I’m going to make a bold statement here: Clue has one of the most magical casts in cinematic history.
You can’t argue with me, don’t bother. MADELINE KAHN! Tim Curry, Eileen Brennan, Michael McKean, Martin Mull, Christopher Lloyd & Lesley Ann Warren (and for you music fans Jane Wiedlin) – do I need to explain why this is the most magical cast? NOPE.
Based on the classic board game Clue, (yes it is based on a board game, but it’s not Battleship, so shut it.) the gloriously campy murder mystery that takes place in 1954 on a dark and stormy night in New England. Is it grabbing you yet? No? lord. Okay.
A group of strangers going by pseudonyms (Mrs. White, Colonel Mustard etc…) invited to a mysterious mansion! By a mysterious man! Murder! Intrigue! Blackmail! Slapstick comedy!
Do I have you yet?
Well, here is my last attempt:
You want to watch it now, yes?
Oh, well just in case you aren’t convinced, it has multiple endings. YES MULTIPLE.
So was it Mrs. White in the Billiards room with a rope?
You’ll have to watch it now, won’t you?
