Trailer: One for the Kids! Meet ‘Paddington’

by: Jay Carlson

I loved Paddington when I was little. I fondly remember the Sophie’s choice I encountered when my father would take me to our local video store. It was always such a tough choice to pick a tape. Most weeks I came home with a He-Man tape, otherwise it was always between Gumby or Paddington. Paddington Goes to the Movies, specifically sticks out in my memory along with its HBO Video logo.

It’s been quite a long time since there’s been new Paddington and the Weinstein company is looking to change that. On January 16th 2015 they will release a film version of the classic story and it looks like a pretty great family film to bring the kids to. The trailer feels like they’ve managed to capture the feeling of classic Paddington stories while making it feel fresh and new.

The film stars Ben Whishaw as the voice of Paddington along with Nicole Kidman as the evil Millicent, who is determined to stuff the talking bear. The film also stars Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins Jim Broadbent Julie Walters and the current Dr. Who himself, Peter Capaldi.

Press Release:

PADDINGTON is the first film adaptation of author Michael Bond’s beloved long-running series of children’s books that first debuted in 1958. The movie is produced by David Heyman who produced all 8 HARRY POTTER films.

PADDINGTON tells the story of the comic misadventures of a young Peruvian bear who travels to the city in search of a home.  Finding himself lost and alone, he begins to realize that city life is not all he had imagined – until he meets the kindly Brown family who read the label around his neck that says “Please look after this bear. Thank you,” and offer him a temporary haven. It looks as though his luck has changed until this rarest of bears catches the eye of a museum taxidermist. The film features an entirely computer-generated bear who interacts with a cast of esteemed actors.
