Is Warner Bros eyeing Jared Leto to play The Joker in David Ayer’s upcoming Suicide Squad film? Sources reporting to The Wrap seem to think so.
It’s been rumored that Leto has been circling a “key role” in the film and that role could be the Clown Prince of Crime. Neither Warner Bros nor reps for Leto were willing to say anything at this point in time. It was rumored that Ryan Gosling was approached for this role but didn’t like the level of commitment that the contract called for.
Leto has yet to settle on anything since winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, so his schedule is technically wide open at this point.
With names like Tom Hardy, Will Smith and Margot Robbie being talked about in conjunction with this film, Jared Leto would be another huge coup for this film.
I don’t think anyone will ever top Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker from The Dark Knight. But with how Leto throws himself into a role, if these rumors do pan out to be true, we could be looking at another intense and engrossing portrayal of DC’s favorite insane clown.
