Newest Harmony Korine Film ‘The Trap’ Doing Some Serious Casting

by: S. Scott Stanikmas

Harmony Korine, writer of the controversial 1995 film KIDS and writer/director of the more recent polarizing Spring Breakers, has chosen his next project. A film focusing on gangsters and a theme of revenge, Korine is set to take on what he call his “most ambitious film to date” and he’s casting like he wants this film to be a huge success.

According to Latino Review the cast started off with Benicio Del Toro. Del Toro is crushing it as the flamboyant and extravagant character The Collector in a handful of films for Marvel Studios. Next up it was announced that Jamie Foxx had climbed aboard for the project as well. Foxx’s last big film was The Amazing Spider-Man 2, where I felt he kind of just stumbled through the motions, not really bringing much to the table.

Then our friends at The Tracking Board broke the news that Jonah Hill is rumored to be playing a role in the upcoming film. Hill certainly has a range, doing things like sophomoric humor in the Jump Street franchise and then going and doing serious dramas like Moneyball and The Wolf Of Wall Street which nab him Oscar nominations.

Not much is known about the film at this time other than it revolves around two friends, one successful in life and the other in and out of jail. When the jailbird is released it seems he wants revenge on his well-to-do friend.

Korine isn’t known for making Oscar-nominated films, but what he does make definitely gets discussions and debates stirring. It will be interesting to see who else comes on for this project. Production is set to begin in early 2015 with principal photography taking place in Miami.
