Hot on the heels of news that Jared Leto was being courted to play the Joker in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, it looks as though Margot Robbie has signed to play Joker sidekick, Harley Quinn.

According to Collider it’s a done deal and that Robbie has taken the role in the film that Ayer refers to as “the dirty dozen with supervillains”.

Previously, it had been rumored that Cara Delevingne was also being considered for the role of Harley Quinn.

Harley Quinn has had a strange journey, making her first appearance as a character in Batman: The Animated Series in the 90’s before making the jump to the comic pages. She was originally a doctor at Arkham Asylum who The Joker twists into falling in love with him. It will be interesting to see how they approach this relationship if both characters do end up in Suicide Squad.
