Anton Yelchin has a lot on his plate in the near future. He’s signed on for the upcoming thriller The Green Room alongside Imogen Poots and Patrick Stewart. Now The Tracking Board is reporting that he’s signed on for the upcoming sports film Baseballissimo.
Baseballissimo tells the story of an up and coming minor league player whose road to the big leagues gets side tracked when he begins to play for an Italian baseball team.
The script was adapted by Jay Baruchel and Jesse Chabot from the non-fiction book by Dave Bidini. The project will be directed by Jacob Tierney.
I liked Jay Baruchel’s Goon. I thought it had a lot of heart and was really funny. I have faith when it comes to Baruchel and sports movies.
Yelchin is certainly not afraid to try different projects. From sci-fi (the new Star Trek franchise, Terminator: Salvation) to horror (the Fright Night remake, Only Lovers Left Alive) to children’s movies (the Smurfs franchise), he has shown that he can excel in anything put in front of him. A sports movie will definitely be new territory for him, but I think he can pull it off.
