There Can be Only One! And Summit Wants it to be Tom Cruise!

by: Jay Carlson

The Wrap is reporting that Tom Cruise is being courted to star in the upcoming Highlander reboot. Cruise would play the mentor role of Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez originally played by Sean Connery in the original Highlander.

This should be taken with a very large grain of salt, as Crusie is nowhere near attached to the project, currently. An actor of Cruise’s magnitude is always highly sought after, so it’s hardly a surprise that he would be courted for this project and any number of others floating around.

Cruise tends to always pick projects with established directors or visionaries on their way up. I honestly couldn’t imagine him stepping aboard a reboot of a B movie franchise like Highlander. (No disrespect to the original film, I enjoyed it quite a bit growing up)

Cedric Nicolas-Troyan is set to direct the Highlander reboot. The original 1986 film centered on the climax of an ages-old battle between immortal warriors, depicted through interwoven past and present day storylines.

How would you feel about Cruise in a Highlander reboot? I don’t think that this one will pan out, but I think it would be intriguing casting.
