AMC has announced that Hong Kong superstar Daniel Wu (Tai Chi Zero, Man with the Iron Fist) is set to executive produce and star in their upcoming martial arts TV series Badlands.
The english language series is described as a “genre-bending martial arts series very loosely based on the classic Chinese tale “Journey to the West.” In a land controlled by feudal barons, “Badlands” tells the story of a ruthless, well-trained warrior named Sunny (Wu) and a young boy who embark on a journey across a dangerous land to find enlightenment.”
Wu was born in Berkeley, California and is fluent in English. His hollywood credits include The Man With The Iron Fists, Europa Report, and Duncan Jones’ upcoming adaptation of the video game Warcraft.
Al Gough and Miles Miller (Smallville), who are no strangers to this genre having worked with Jackie Chan on 2000’s Shanghai Noon, will team up with Wu as the show’s executive producers along with Oscar-nominated producers Stacy Sher and Michael Shamberg (Pulp Fiction) and Stephen Fung (Tai Chi Zero).
Six, one-hour episodes for Badlands have been ordered by AMC. Expect the premiere to be in late 2015 or early 2016.
