The new Pee-Wee Herman movie has been slowly roasting in development hell for years. Slowly but surely though the Pee-Wee train has been chugging along, making headway little bits at a time. We’ve heard that Paul Rubens and Paul Rust have written a script and Judd Apatow will be producing. And now, thanks to the Wrap, we’ve learned that the project may be developed by Netflix.
Thanks to unnamed sources, the Wrap has announced that the upcoming PWH movie has moved from Universal to Netflix. Rubens made allusions to this in an interview earlier in the year when he said “we now have an amazing company involved, and that’s the really big announcement that hasn’t been made yet.” Apparently that studio is Netflix.
Netflix has been coming into it’s own recently with groundbreaking original series like House of Cards and Orange Is The New Black and has made waves with its annoucement of the quadrilogy of Marvel Studio productions focusing on Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones.
With this announcement, a question now needs to be asked – Will the upcoming Pee-Wee Herman movie come to cinemas or will it be a direct streaming project?
And that’s ot the only unknown. As of right now the plot is being kept under wraps and no director has been revealed either. With a February 2015 shoot date looming on the horizon expect more news on this project to come fast and furious.
