HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones is looking to go big. IMAX big that is.
In anticipation of the upcoming fifth season which premieres in April, HBO is having a special trailer made for IMAX cinemas. And thats not all. 150 of IMAX’s top theaters across the U.S. will also show the last two episodes from the fourth season from January 23rd to the 29th.
This will mark the first time a television series will be given the lavish IMAX treatment.
Game of Thrones has always been a larger than life, sweeping epic. From the wild landscapes to the historic castles, from the thoughtful, more character driven moments to the bloody and brutal battles, GoT has always been the kind of show that would benefit from being seen on a big screen. And it doesn’t get any bigger than IMAX.
HBO chief marketing officer Pamela Levine was quoted as saying “We are always looking to provide fans with new and exciting ways to experience the show and viewing two key episodes, along with the new trailer, on such an impressive platform makes for a great event.”
As a fan of both the books and the television show I can’t wait to see if this hits an IMAX screen around me. Something like this is an event worth driving to.
