A few weeks ago it was announced that Oscar Isaacs will be playing the role of main villain Apocalypse in the next chapter of the X-Men movies for Fox. We also heard rumblings that there were numerous actors and actresses in line for the roles of young Storm, Cyclops and Jean Grey.
Well, the folks at Latino Review have not only gotten news that the list may have gotten even shorter but that certain people have already begun testing for the roles.
First up is Storm. Two names being thrown around are Alexandra Shipp and Zendaya Coleman. Shipp recently played Aaliyah in the made for TV movie Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B and can be seen next in the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton. Meanwhile Coleman has been in TV shows like Zapped, Shake It Up and K.C. Undercover. Just on looks alone I see more Halle Berry in Shipp than I do Coleman.
Cyclops has a trio of excellent young actors vying for the role. Tye Sheridan (from the 2012 indie hit Mud), Jamie Blackley (who was in last year’s If I Go alongside Chloe Grace Moretz) and Taron Edgerton (from the upcoming Kingsman) are all in the running. From the buzz Kingsman is getting a lot of online reporters are putting their chips on Taron. I’ll hold my vote until I see it myself. For now I’ve got to give the nod to Sheridan. Mud was awesome and he was such a major part of that.
Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark on HBO’s Game of Thrones) and Saoirse Ronan (Hanna, The Lovely Bones and The Grand Budapest Hotel) are in the running for young Jean Grey. As much as a GoT nerd as I am, I’m pulling for Ronan.
No matter who gets cast, these possibilities are incredible. Hopefully we get confirmations soon as production is set to begin in Montreal this April.
X-Men: Apocalypse is slated to it theaters May 27, 2016.
