‘Saw’ Writers to “Recalibrate” the Halloween Franchise

by: S. Scott Stanikmas

Don’t call it a comeback. Or a reboot, remake or reimagining. Call it a “recalibration” of the series.

The Hollywood Reporter has sources that tell them that Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, writers of the Saw movies IV – VII, have been tapped by Dimension Films to write the latest installment in the Halloween horror franchise.

This would be the first new Halloween movie since the poorly received 2009 Rob Zombie directed Halloween II.

While Zombie helmed the 2007 reboot and it’s aforementioned 2009 sequel, no director has been named to the “recalibrated” film. Patrick Lussier (2009’s My Bloody Valentine, Drive Angry) and Todd Famer were originally going to tackle Halloween 3D, but that fell through and word on anything Michael Myers went quiet.

While I’m not overly excited to see this franchise bastardized any more than it has been, I’m willing to give this the benefit of the doubt until we get a script or see a trailer. Until that point, I’ll file this under “meh.”
