Even though it already has a start studded cast with the likes of Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto, Warner Bros upcoming Suicide Squad film was dealt a bit of a blow when Tom Hardy couldn’t take on the role of Rick Flagg due to other commitments.
But the loss of Hardy has opened up the door for another actor to climb into the role. Names being floated around were Jake Gyllenhaal, Jon Bernthal, Joel Edgerton and Karl Urban. But The Wrap is reporting that Joel Kinnaman is the new frontrunner for the sought after part.
Kinnaman, known for his roles in AMC’s The Killing and the recent Robocop remake, is a decent enough actor. He’s been saddled with some dismal projects, but I did enjoy his turn as Alex Murphy in the aforementioned Robocop.
While it’s not set in stone yet, this could be the shot in the arm Kinnaman’s career needs to propel him to the next level and make him a top action star.
Production is set to begin in April and the film is set to bow in theaters August 5, 2016.
