The upcoming Christmas horror film Krampus has recently added a slew of talent to its cast, according to The Wrap and The Hollywood Reporter.
Adam Scott, fresh off a five year run on NBC’s awesome Parks and Recreation and currently starring in Hot Tub Time Machine 2, will play an overworked dad who’s not always around. Toni Collette was cast as a mother whose priorities are a little skewed, an ostrich of a woman who sticks her head in the proverbial sand by making elaborate meals and pretending that everything with her family is okay.
Playing their children are The Carrie Diaries Stefania Owen and Chef’s Emjay Anthony.
The movie is based on the legend of Krampus, a pagan demon who comes for children who have been bad and punishes them. The character has gotten thrust into the public eye more recently thanks to shows like The League and American Dad! which have brought the ancient deity to the forefront of our horrified imaginations.
Also signed are Alison Tolman, who plays Collette’s sister-in-law, and David Koechner as a father whose child disappeared under mysterious, Krampus-like circumstances.
Tapped to direct is Michael Dougherty, who co-wrote the script with Todd Casey and Zach Shields. Dougherty directed the awesome Halloween flick Trick ‘r’ Treat, which is a holiday favorite in October in my house. If he brings the same energy and scares to Krampus that he did to Trick ‘r’ Treat, count me in.
Legendary, the studio behind the film, is eying a spring shoot in New Zealand with an estimated early December release to theaters.
