After casting a few of his regulars like Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro, David O Russell is looking to add some fresh faces to his upcoming film Joy.
Dascha Polanco, the actress who plays Dayanara Diaz on the hit Netflix show Orange Is the New Black, has nabbed herself a role in Russell’s rags-to-riches tale of Miracle Mop inventor Joy Mangano. Polanco will play Jackie, Joy’s loyal friend who helps her start her mop company.
Joy tells the story of the aforementioned Joy Mangano, played by Jennifer Lawrence, who went from being a struggling single mom to one of America’s most successful entrepreneurs when she invented the self-wringing Miracle Mop.
Russell will be directing from a script by Annie Mumolo. Mumolo’s biggest success so far is the raunchy comedy Bridesmaids.
Polanco can be seen on the upcoming third season of Orange Is the New Black, which hits Netflix June 12.
