Eddie Murphy hasn’t done a serious film since 2006’s Dreamgirls, which saw the actor get nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Well, the wait for his next dramatic role is over, as ET has the exclusive that the actor has signed on for Lee Daniels’ upcoming Richard Pryor biopic.
Murphy will play former boxer Leroy “Buck Carter” Pryor, the father of Richard Pryor.
Mike Epps was cast as the lead role of Pryor himself back in August of 2014 and Kate Hudson was recently cast to play Pryor’s wife, Jennifer.
This casting news was hinted at a few days ago when the director of Precious and Lee Daniels’ The Butler posted a picture to his Instagram of himself with Eddie Murphy.
No release date or production start date has been announced for the film as of yet.
