Director Gore Verbinski has been feeling the sting from a big budget bomb for a while now. While he was the man behind the camera for the first three Pirates of the Caribbean flicks most folks will not let him forget the atrocity that was The Lone Ranger. But it looks like the filmmaker is ready to come back.
Returning to horror (Verbinski did helm the American remake of The Ring), the auteur will helm the upcoming supernatural film A Cure for Wellness. And The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Dane DeHaan is signed to star.
The film tells the story of a man (DeHaan) who travels to the Swiss Alps to find his boss, only to be trapped in a mental institution.
Also cast is newcomer Mia Goth. The Nymphomaniac Vol II actress will play a patient at the institution who doesn’t see what’s going on around her.
The film will be written by Justin Haythe. Haythe’s past work include the adaptation for Revolutionary Road, Snitch, and some script work for Verbinski’s Lone Ranger.
DeHaan has been uneven in his career as of late. I think he shined in Chronicle, was a little over the top in Amazing Spider-Man 2 and just fell flat in Life After Beth. This is a chance for Dane DeHaan to rise up once again, and I think an atmospheric horror film is just the way to do it.
