It was rumored a few days ago that a group of five young men were up for the role of Peter Parker / Spider-Man in the joint rebooting of the franchise through Marvel Studios and Sony. Nat Wolff, Tom Holland, Asa Butterfield, Liam James and Timothee Chalamet were considered to be the top picks.
But it looks like the top picks may have been whittled down to the top pick.
Latino Review has sources that are saying Asa Butterfield is the man to play the next incarnation of the wall crawler.
While nothing has been officially stated through anyone in a position to say anything, LR’s source says that it is in the bag and “Marvel had liked him since day one.”
This should hopefully be confirmed soon. The web-slinger is expected to make his proper debut in the MCU in Captain America: Civil War, which is currently filming and hits theaters May 6, 2016, before getting his first solo film in the reboot series at Sony, set to drop July 28, 2017.
