Every new Edgar Wright film is cause for a celebration. As far as I’m concerned he can do no wrong after coming out of the gate four for four with Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim and The World’s End. And let’s not forget Spaced, because I haven’t.
It’s a shame that Wright lost so much time working on Marvel’s Ant-Man. Even more of a shame is that we’ll never see the resulting film a screenplay that Joss Whedon called the best Marvel script he’s ever read. My hope is that he comes at this one with a chip on his shoulder to show Marvel Studios what they missed out on.
Ansel Elgort has already been cast as the lead in Wright’s upcoming Baby Driver, but this next bit of casting is just as cool.
The Wrap is reporting that Cinderella star Lily James is in talks to join the cast of Wright’s next film, Baby Driver.
The film centers on a skilled driver (Elgort) who runs afoul of a powerful crime boss. Soon he finds himself working for the criminal on a doomed heist in which his life, freedom and love are threatened. James is said to be the top choice to play said love interest.
Lily James was excellent in Cinderella. She made the character unique and extremely human, not just a perfect Disney princess that we’re used to seeing. She put forth a very grounded and nuanced performance so I can see why Edgar Wright wants her for his next film.
I’m very curious to see what Edgar Wright does with his next film. He’s easily one of the most exciting directors working today.
