I guess it was only a matter of time.
After skewering the horror genre with the Scary Movie and A Haunted House franchises (the former of which is now just lampooning anything in pop culture these days), it looks like Marlon Wayans is taking shots at another big screen moneymaker.
At Cannes the actor / producer announced that his next project will be a take on the mega-popular Fifty Shades Of Grey. Wayans’ version will be titled Fifty Shades of Black and he will be co-writing and starring.
Wayans was quoted as saying “Sex and comedy go hand-in-hand and I’m looking forward to having fun with this project. It’s amazing when a film of this caliber comes along begging to be made fun of. I’m really happy to be doing what I love with people I love to do it with. That double entendre was intentional.”
It’s good to see he’s having fun, because I’m sure I won’t. I thought the first Scary Movie was pretty funny but everything after that has been a steady descent in terms of quality in my view. This just seems like it will probably follow suit and be a paint-by-numbers parody.
A Haunted House director Michael Tiddes is attached to sit behind the camera on this one. Wayans and production company IM Global are shooting for an early 2016 release.
