Say Frank Miller and Batman in the same sentence and most fans will get starry eyed, remembering such classics as The Dark Knight Returns and Year One. But others may take a turn and remember the subpar DKR sequel, The Dark Knight Strikes Again.
But the bad taste of DKSA may soon be washed away. DC Comics had already announced that Miller would be teaming up with crime noir comic writer Brian Azzarello to tackle Dark Knight III: The Master Race. And now we have more details regarding this upcoming series.
It’s going to be a little weird not seeing Frank Miller’s artwork but given how delay-prone Miller is, I’d say this may be the smart route.
On top of that, each issue will inlcude a 16 page “mini-comic” that will be affixed to the center of the issue. These Dark Knight Universe stories will feature a rotating cast of artists and characters.
Miller had talked in the past about wanting to expand the focus of the DKR universe to other characters, but just never seemed to find the right time or way to do it. Now he has a chance to explore the nooks and crannies of the universe he created thirty years ago.
The eight issue mini-series is slated for a late-fall release.
