Some time ago, it was rumored that Jena Malone was up for a big role in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. When she showed up with red hair, and with the Dark Knight Returns look of Batman, everyone thought that she’d be a dead ringer for future Robin, Carrie Kelley.

Then the full trailer debuted at San Diego Comic-Con and we saw a Robin suit that had been desecrated by the Joker, leading us to believe that maybe the Dark Knight detective would be going sidekick-less in his war against the Man of Steel.

Latino Review has a couple of sources that are telling them that Malone will still have a presence as a well-known member of the Batman family.

Apparently the actress will portray Barbara Gordon in Dawn of Justice. Comic readers should be familiar with that name, as she’s the daughter of Jim Gordon, one time Police Commissioner of Gotham City. She’s perhaps better known by her crimefighting aliases – acrobatic superheroine Batgirl and (later on after she loses the use of her legs) the information broker Oracle.

For now, this is just a rumor that’s circulating. We know that Jena Malone will be in BVS, but we still don’t know for sure just how big her role will be.

I think I’d actually like it better if she were Oracle, having lost her ability to walk during the Metropolis incident between Superman and Zod. If she retired from superheroics along with Bruce Wayne after the (possible) “Dead Robin” event, this would give her some motivation to get back in the game and give Batman a much needed edge in the information department.
