If you’re reading these words, odds are good you own the Star Wars films (or at least the original trilogy) on some format, whether it be VHS, Laserdisc, DVD or Blu-ray. And now it looks like collectors will have another version to try and grab this holiday season.
Disney, LucasFilm and 20th Century FOX announced that on November 10 of this year the films will be released individually on Blu-ray in collectible Steelbooks.
The films have been released on Blu-ray before but only in sets, either Episodes 1-3, Episodes 4-6 or all six in one package.
Good news for fans not looking to double dip – these sets will not include any different special features that haven’t already been seen before.
Like many, I’m not big on the Prequel Trilogy, but I do enjoy a nice Steelbook every once in a while. A quick look at eBay will prove that Steelbooks sometimes have the potential to rise in value quite a bit if they become limited in release. (I don’t know about you, but out of them all, I dig the Darth Vader one the most.)
The films will also see release as one big set again as well, just in time for fans to catch up on the films for the December 18 opening of The Force Awakens.
