The second season finale of FOX’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine ended on quite the cliffhanger. With Captain Holt (Andre Braugher) forced to take a job at the NYPD’s Public Relations department, the detectives at the 99th Precinct were in need of a new captain.

As the crew (including Andy Samberg, Joe L Truglio, Terry Crewes, Stephanie Beatriz, Melissa Fumero and Chelsea Peretti) agreed to meet their new leader with open arms, the elevator door opened AND…end scene.

Entertainment Weekly has the scoop that Bill Hader has signed on to play the new captain on the season premiere, which is set to air September 27.

No word yet on just how long Hader will sub in for Braugher, but the odds are good it won’t likely be more than a few episodes, if that. Andre Braugher is just too good to keep away from this show. I know I’m not alone in loving the dynamic between him and Sanberg’s Detective Jake Peralta.

Also announced was The Good Wife’s Archie Panjabi. She’ll show up on the October 4 episode as Lieutenant Knox, an officer who shows an interest in Lo Truglio’s character Charles Boyle. There also isn’t any set time frame as to how many episodes Panjabi will hang around for.

I’ve been a fan of Brooklyn Nine-Nine since the first episode. Usually my lady, Jenn can’t stand the comedies I like, but she’s right alongside me in thinking that this is one of the funniest shows on TV right now. I know I’ll be making sure I’m home Sunday, September 27 to catch the season premiere.
