With her last couple of fights ending in devastating knockouts on her opponents, does Marvel Studios feel brave enough to say no to Ronda Rousey when she says she wants to be Captain Marvel?
The MMA fighter recently took to Twitter and stated her interest in the role, saying “I’d like to vie for Miss Marvel.” Now, odds are she meant Captain Marvel Carol Danvers and not the current Ms. Marvel of the comics Kamala Kahn (We can’t all have encyclopedic knowledge of every comic character out there).
Rousey even took the Tyrese route and started posting fan art of her as the character on her Instagram account:
While Rousey does have some acting experience, having supporting roles in Furious 7, Expendables 3 and Entourage as well as other projects already lined up, she is an unproven commodity in the acting world. She hasn’t been called upon to really carry a movie yet.
However, she is in the news a lot lately. With her dismantling of opponents in the UFC Octagon and her media war with fighters like Bethe Correia and Floyd Mayweather, she does bring that big-name recognition that could elevate a character who is a relative unknown to the casual fan.
Marvel is looking to release Captain Marvel on November 2, 2018, so they’ve got some time to decide.
