Just days after we heard about the theatrical re-release and eventual Blu-ray debut of the cult classic The Iron Giant, there are now rumblings of a possible second installment.

Vin Diesel, the voice behind the titular metal alien, recently posted the trailer for The Iron Giant: The Signature Edition on his Facebook page and also put up the following comments:

I have been very lucky to have played so many interesting characters… one of the first and one of my favorites is… the Iron Giant.

P.s. Don’t be surprised when you hear WB announce the sequel.

There hasn’t been anything official announced by Warner Bros regarding a sequel, this could just be wishful thinking on Diesel’s part. But then again, his will has brought both the Riddick and XXX franchises back to life – and no one really asked for those!

If they did decide to do another Iron Giant film, there’s the question of who will direct. Do they try and get Brad Bird back to direct, even though his work on The Incredibles 2 might delay the proceedings? Or do they go another route and try and pick someone else that’s hungry and ready to prove themselves?

Either way, we can be happy that we get to see this film again in theaters on September 30 and/or October 4 in select theaters, with new scenes added in!
