It’s been far too long since we’ve had the pleasure of seeing new Edgar Wright on the big screen. It’s only been a couple years since he unleashed The Worlds End, but by the time we get his next, Baby Driver, it will have been four years. It still stings that we never got Wright’s Ant-Man, but it opened the door for him to bring us something completely original which is always a good thing.
Baby Driver, Edgar Wright’s Ultimate Rock-and-Roll car chase previously announced the casting of Ansel Elgort and Lily James as the titular Driver and his love interest, a waitress at a diner. Deadline now reports that Jamie Foxx will play a crime boss who coerces Ansel Elgort’s talented getaway driver to work for him.
Foxx, an academy award winner for 2004’s Ray brings an established swagger to Wright’s current cast of up and coming young stars. This is a great move for Foxx after following up a terrific performance in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained with a terrible turn as the villain in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the very forgettable action film White House Down and the box office dud that was Annie.
Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver is slated to open March 17th 2017
