Has Marvel Studios Set Their Sights on Rebecca Ferguson for ‘Captain Marvel’?

Rebecca Fergusen

After tackling impossible missions with Tom Cruise, a little bit of space travel should be nothing right?

The new rumor going around is that Marvel Studios is looking at Rebecca Ferguson to headline their first major female superhero film Captain Marvel. The news comes to us from the good folks at Heroic Hollywood.

Ferguson just had the breakout role of her career in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation opposite Tom Cruise. Proving that she could pretty much pick her next role, she turned down a possible part in FOX’s Gambit to take a spot in the adaptation of the best-selling novel The Girl on the Train.

Ferguson’s name isn’t the only name floating in the ether for this part. Not too long ago there was word that a strong fanbase wanted UFC fighter Ronda Rousey to portray the spacefaring heroine Carol Danvers. While nothing official has come out of Marvel Studios you could make a strong case for either lady.

However the film isn’t slated to come out for a little under three years, so Ferguson’s name could just be the first of many to come. Who knows how many other actresses will have breakthrough roles and catch the eye of Marvel?

For now, we’ll file this under “possibly.” There are worse directions for the needle to point on this one, but I just think it’s a little too early to start hedging bets.

    • She is quite hot and definitely looks the part, but could she handle a movie like this? I just don’t see her having the skills to carry a project like Captain Marvel.
