If there is one thing the CW is good at lately, it’s taking out-there comic book concepts and making them believable.
They make a man fighting crime with a bow and arrow seem normal. They make a guy running at super-speeds fighting a giant psychic gorilla seem viable. And now they’ve taken a character that has seemed almost impossible to translate from page to screen and made him look good.
The CW recently released the first ever look at Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) and Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee) in full costume before their debut on TV:
I like it. You can’t do the classic comic book look, as Hawkman can’t run around bare-chested with a giant hawk mask on. But it does maintain a certain vibe of the four-color fashion while still fitting in with the CW’s motif of cool looking leather outfits.
The only thing I don’t see that bothers me are the wings. The Hawks gotta fly, so we’re going to need to see some wings sooner rather than later. If they’re being rendered in post-production via CGI, then I get why we don’t see them yet.
But just how will they appear? Will they unfold like a cape and stiffen out, like a kind of cape made of the gravity defying Nth metal? Or will it be more of a propulsion based backpack like the Falcon uses in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
We’ll get our first glimpse of the avian heroes during a crossover event between the CW’s Arrow and Flash TV shows before the couple takes a spot in the early 2016 winter-debuting series Legends of Tomorrow. Until then, we can only wonder where, if anywhere, do they keep their wings?
