It was just a few days ago that word got out about a new musical Mary Poppins project getting under way officially at Disney. Just like that the studio may have found an actress that they like for the role of the magical singing nanny.
Den of Geek reports that Emily Blunt is rumored to be the top choice for the role. There isn’t anything solid to help back this up, so for now we’ll file this under “RUMOR,” but she is a terrific choice.
She’s got history with the House of Mouse, having starred in their recent film adaptation of the Tony-winning Broadway musical Into The Woods. And there have been rumors swirling about her being eyed for the role of Captain Marvel at Marvel Studios, another Disney owned company.
Details about the film have been scarce, and what has been coming out is contradicting. There is word that the film is a sequel set twnety years after the original, but then it’s also being said that the film isn’t a sequel. So would that make it a soft reboot of the character for a new generation? At this point in time I don’t think anyone has the answers.
Into the Woods director Rob Marshall has been attached to sit behind the camera on this one and work from a script by screenwriters David Magee, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.
