What Role Will Silent Bob Play in ‘Moose Jaws’?

Kevin Smith announced that his last film, the atrocious Tusk was the start of what he calls his “True North Trilogy.” The next two installments will be Yoga Hosers, which will star the two clerks from the mini-mart in Tusk (played by Smith’s daughter and Johnny Depp’s offspring), and Moose Jaws, which will be “JAWS, with a moose).

But first Smith is working on Clerks III and the Mallrats sequel Mallbrats. Presumably both of those films will show up before Moose Jaws does, because the director has big plans in that film for the character that he portrays, the lovable trenchcoat wearing Silent Bob.

In speaking with the Australian news outlet news.com.au, Smith may have let loose a giant SPOILER, so read with caution:

I just finished writing the scene where — spoilers — Silent Bob gets eaten by the moose. That’s how he f—ing goes out! Isn’t that fun? I was talking to Jay [Mewes] about Moose Jaws and I’m like, “I’m thinking about bringing us in as the Captain Quint character.” And he goes, “Yeah, but Quint gets killed!” I was like, “One of us has to get eaten.” And he was like, “You. Not me.” I was like, “Why?” And he was like, “Because I wanna be in other movies!” Fair enough, dude. So, rather than let [Silent Bob] go out with dignity, he’ll be eaten by a fucking moose.

What an anti-climactic way to go out. Smith has tried to put the View Askew characters down for the count before (even going so far as having “GOD” close the book on the cinematic universe), but they keep pulling him back in. It’s his comfort zone so he can’t really be blamed for going back to what people love him most for. But he might just be feeling like this is his chance to end them once and for all and finish it on a “high” note.

So if the director is looking to put the View Askewniverse to bed for good (like he’s tried to do before) then you can’t do any better than killing them off.

After all, dead is dead. Especially in movies. Right?

  1. I would have enjoyed the article much more had you left out 2 words. Was it necessary to preface Tusk with “the atrocious?” While you’re certainly entitled to your opinion, it may not be wise to alienate a good portion of your audience in the first sentence. After all, the people most likely to click on this article are Kevin Smith fans who may have enjoyed the movie.

On a positive note, yours was the only website I’ve come across that published this bit of news, so kudos for the fresh content.

    • Thanks for the feedback! We’re Kevin Smith fans, as well. So it wouldn’t be alienating ALL his fans. We’re just shooting you straight based off our own opinions. Tastes can be different, we respect yours. It’s part of what makes talking film so much fun!
