After what could have been a career-ending injury in a horrific traffic accident in June 2014, comedian Tracy Morgan is slowly making his way back to acting and comedy. It started with a hosting stint on Saturday Night Live. Then he signed on for the Ice Cube / Charlie Day film Fist Fight. Now he’s taking a shot at playing a legend.
The Wrap reported that Morgan is in talks to play comedian Redd Foxx in the upcoming Richard Pryor biopic from director Lee Daniels.
“Mr. Foxx, I hope I do you justice!” said Morgan in a statement. “It will be an honor to portray an icon”
The film will also star Mike Epps as Pryor himself, Kate Hudson as his wife Jennifer, Taraji P. Henson and Eddie Murphy as Pryor’s parents and Oprah Winfrey as his grandmother.
Foxx was instrumental early on in Pryor’s career. The Sanford and Son star owned a nightclub and he gave Pryor a break by using him as his opening act.
Along with all of this film work, Morgan has announced a stand-up tour in early 2016.
