A couple of weeks ago word got out that Paramount was looking at a bevy of talented women for the female lead in their upcoming Baywatch film. There were seven actresses on that list. But today that shortlist got whittled down to one.

Deadline reports that Alexandra Daddario will act opposite Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson in the action comedy based on the hit guilty pleasure TV show. Daddario will play Summer, a love interest to Efron’s character.

Paramount is hoping to jumpstart a possible film franchise in the vein of the recently successful Jump Street films, where the movie takes a tongue-in-cheek approach to the material while still having some heart at the center of it.

Daddario most recently starred in this year’s action blockbuster San Andreas, which also starred Johnson. Could it just be coincidence that she’s also appearing in this film? One would have to presume her prior working relationship with “The Rock” swayed things in her favor. Plus I’m probably not alone in thinking that she fills out a bathing suit pretty well.

Shooting on Baywatch is expected to begin sometime in early 2016.
