Edgar Wright Set to Tackle His First Animated Film

Edgar Wright

A lot of Edgar Wright’s films have always had a “live-action cartoon” feel to them. The closest we’ve come yet though is the video game animation that was strewn throughout Scott Pilgrim VS the World.

But all that is about to change, as The Wrap is reporting that Wright has just signed on with DreamWorks Animation to direct his first animated feature film.

While details are scarce the report did say that the project would have something to do with shadows. DreamWorks did have a previous project called Me & My Shadow, which followed a boring human and his shadow who longs for a more exciting life, on the docket but Wright’s film is said to be a different animal.

DWA’s co-presidents of animation Bonnie Arnold and Mireille Soria had the following to say in an official statement:

Edgar will spearhead a new approach to this fascinating concept and we’re ecstatic to have him onboard as director along with David as co-writer. We’ve always been intrigued by a film concept involving shadows, and now with Edgar’s signature comedic style and abilities as a natural storyteller, audiences will be treated to a truly captivating and energetic tale.

I’m very interested in seeing what Edgar Wright can do with no limitations in the animated world. I’ve never walked away from one of his films feeling like I didn’t get my money’s worth in entertainment. But before we get this we’ll get his next live-action film Baby Driver, which is currently gearing up for production.
