In the DC Comics Universe, the greatest Rogues Gallery belongs to Batman. before we argue the point, here’s my proof – artist Jim Lee (a man notorious for taking his time and being meticulous with his gorgeous artwork) came back to do a monthly book (which at the time was unheard of) with Jeph Loeb on the condition that he gets to draw every major Batman villain possible.
So when it comes to films, Warner Bros should have no problem picking a kick-ass adversary to oppose the Dark Knight. And according to the latest rumors the newest choice isn’t just kick-ass, he’s downright deadly scary.
Latino Review has sources that tell them Will Smith will terrorize Gotham City as the hitman with superhuman accuracy, Deadshot.
If this is true it makes perfect sense. Deadshot likes to kill with guns…a lot. Batman hates guns…a lot. It only makes sense for these two to clash. And if Warner Bros is trying for a unified cinematic universe (akin to the Marvel Cinematic Universe), it’s only natural that the Suicide Squad baddie would take a swing through Gotham, where someone is bound to be looking to put out a hit on someone in a major way.
However, these two four color titans may not be butting heads until the latter part of the film. The story is supposedly going to have Deadshot play a “major role,” even teaming with Batman in a The Good, The Bad and The Ugly style scenario.
The only thing I don’t like about this is the spoiler potential. This is telling us right away that Deadshot makes it through the Suicide Squad film, which means if there are any scenes where his life is in danger or the audience isn’t sure if he’ll make it, now we know that he comes through the other side.
I’m aware that Smith has said publicly that he signed a multi-film deal with Warner Bros meaning that we could expect to survive the suicide aspect of Task Force X. But Denis Leary also signed a mutli-film deal with Sony for the Amazing Spider-Man films, and he died at the end of the first one. Saying that Deadshot is even a possibilty now tells us that his chances of surviving Suicide Squad are very good.
However, as this is just a rumor at the moment, we should take this rumor with a grain of salt. A lot can happen between now and preproduction for Ben Affleck’s first solo Batman film, which is expected to drop in 2018.
