After being let down by the new American Godzilla from Gareth Edwards, I was excited by the original Japanese studio Toho taking the reins again and bringing the beast back to prominence in Godzilla: Resurgence.
Then Birth.Death.Movies put up these photos that author August Ragone posted on his blog recently – and man do they ever show an ugly side of the King of Kaiju:
Sweet cream does he look hideous! Is he suffering from some kind of intense radiation burns? Did that cause his mutations with the super long neck, stubby arms and rows of needle-teeth?
The site also says that the suit will be operated by up to three actors, be almost twice as tall as previous incarnations and be a mix of practical man-in-suit puppetry, mechanical stuff and CGI.
Apparently BDM also got some plot details from a source inside Toho that sheds some light on what we can expect from the next installment from Japan’s version. SPOILERS ahead:

Still here? Cool. Let’s talk Godzilla!!
So the film will start with the big monster all burnt and scarred, like in the above photos. But he won’t stay that way. He’ll go through a couple of metamorphoses during the film and by his third form will begin to look like the monster we all know and love.
No word yet on if the big guy will fight any other monsters or who they could be, but I don’t really care. I’m just excited that this is coming out in Japan this summer (although we don’t have any word yet on if an American release is on the horizon).
