When fans dreamt of a comic book movie featuring their favorite superhero team, whether it was The Justice League or Avengers, naysayers touted that it was impossible. Getting all that star power needed for a film like that was never going to happen.
Then The Avengers happened and blew everyone’s mind. Not only could it be done, it could be done really, REALLY well and make a ton of cash.
But I have to say – I think the Russo Brothers are out of their freakin’ minds with their plans for their Infinity War two parter.
Talking to Comic Book Movie, Joe and Anthony Russo revealed that they have plans to feature over 60 major characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in what should be he biggest epic in the studio’s history.
Joe talked about just how many characters are being juggled about:
We have so many characters we’re dealing with. We’re breaking ground on Avengers: Infinity War. We have a board with 67 characters on it.
That’s insane! We know that not everyone will get treated like a star. A lot of these men and women will most likely get a couple of quick scenes and if they’re a one-liner in. And the duo know this.
Just who will come to the forefront? Joe talked about that as well (this time to Comic Book Resources) and it sounds like he’s got some interesting ideas as to who may or may not be taking the baton and running with it once the war against Thanos gets underway:
Everything is finite, right? Nothing can last forever. It’s cyclical. Some New Avengers in phase 4 are going to become prominent and then maybe some Avengers might not be around anymore. So, we’ll see how all this plays out but you have to treat every character with respect. I think it’s interesting that if you’ve seen four or five movies with the lead character having an arc, I want to see some story telling from some of the secondary characters. We’re focusing on that right now with Infinity War while we’re breaking into those movies, is which characters can we pull to the forefront who potentially haven’t had their own ‘A’ story arc to this point. I think you’ll see that the supporting Avengers are going to become primary Avengers.
It’s a well-known fact that the Russo Brothers are big fans of Black Widow and are truly behind her getting her own film. But who else could possibly take center stage and shine? Hawkeye? Vision and Scarlet Witch? Falcon? I’d be all for any of them getting their own films, or even taking on larger roles in the Infinity War films.
We’ll find out just who will get promoted when Avengers: Infinity War, Part 1 hits theaters on May 4, 2018.
