The Marvel / Netflix joint venture has been a big success for both parties. Daredevil’s first season got such rave reviews that a second season was rushed into production (even before two of the four series and the proposed Avengers-style team-up Defenders gets made) and will be debuting this March.
And it would seem the Man Without Fear isn’t the only one that critics are raving about. Jessica Jones, which debuted this past November, is also getting a sophomore season. Announced at the Televison Critics Associaton’s winter press tour, the second superhero show for Marvel and Netflix will now also get a second season.
Just when it will debut is up in the air. The plan is still to get Luke Cage on the air sometime in the near future, then get Iron Fist on the air before the contractually obligated Defenders hits the streaming airwaves.
Speaking of the second season of Daredevil, even though it has yet to premiere Jon Bernthal is getting much praise for his portrayal of Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher.
TV Line reported that the vigilante was next in line for his own series on Netlfix. After three movies that met with less than enthusiastic critic response, maybe this is the way to go. After all, now we can truly see the Punisher exact a never-ending war on crime (via 13 episode seasons). And the streaming crowd seems to respond well to the gritty take on superheroes that the Marvel / Netflix merger has brought.
