The last time we saw DC Comics’ old-timey Wild West character Jonah Hex it was in a subpar action flick starring Josh Brolin as the titular mangled-face cowboy. But for their newest time traveling show Legends of Tomorrow, the CW decided to take another crack at the character with another actor donning the prosthetics.
Johnathon Schaech has been tapped to play the outlaw on the small screen. Schaech, whose credits include the Showtime series Ray Donovan and films like The Legend Of Hercules and That Thing You Do! confirmed the announcement via Instagram.
Legends of Tomorrow producer Marc Guggenheim, in an interview with EW, said that Hex was always in the plans when they were doing a time travel aspect:
Ever since we decided that Legends would involve time travel, we were eager to do a story set in the Old West. But if you’re going to do a story set in the DC Universe version of the Old West, you simply must include Jonah Hex in it. We’re thrilled about bringing another well known, beloved DC character to television.
The character will show up in episode eleven this season and with the talks of a rotating cast every season it could lead to Hex becoming a sometime member of the team.
Schaech can’t do much worse than Brolin did. And it’s not that Josh Brolin did a horrible job – it’s just that the movie itself was very “meh” overall.
Legends of Tomorrow debuts on the CW this Thursday at 8pm.
