He might not be back as the T-800 in any new Terminator films, but that’s not stopping Arnold Schwarzenegger from dusting off another one of his old aliases for an upcoming film.
At a special Q & A in the U.K. (which TheArnoldFans.com transcribed), the former Governor of California said that he’ll be taking up the sword and loincloth once again and playing Conan the Barbarian in a continuation of the films from the early 1980s.
Arnold said that the story will be a natural progression from where we last left the Cimmerian:
I’m sitting on the throne for years and years — decades, and then all of the sudden, the time comes when they want to overthrow me.
Even though he seems like he might not be able to hold his own at the age of 68, Schwarzenegger has assured his fans that he still has plenty of gas left in his tank:
I did all the physical stuff [of my last few movies] and it didn’t wipe me out and I have plenty of energy and feel really terrific. So I am absolutely convinced that I can do the Conan movie and do the horseback riding, the sword fights, and all the fighting.
If Arnold can still do all the physical stuff for this film I will be highly impressed. I’m just worried about what he might look like in the (possibly) revealing outfits. Being able to do the stunts is one thing. Looking the part without the help of a lot of CGI is another.
Currently the search for a director is the next step, as Arnold said last year that he has read a script (when the project was known as Legend Of Conan) and said that it was very well written. No timetable for release has been announced as of yet.
