It looks like Universal is looking to add a female big bad as the foil for Vin Diesel and his crew for their eighth installment in the Fast and the Furious franchise and they’ve set their sights on a pretty big name, Charlize Theron.
Jeff Schneider over at The Wrap reports that while Universal is optimistic, Theron isn’t signing on until there is a script. It stands to reason that this should be at some point very soon as the film is slated to begin shooting this spring for an April 2017 release.
If the deal gets done Theron would be driving for director F. Gary Gray for a second time, the two previously worked together on The Italian Job in 2003.
I like Theron and it would be a great get for the production to bring a legit Oscar winner into the fold. According to Variety they are looking for more than a one picture commitment, so she could be the big bad throughout this “final” trilogy of films.
