There were two reasons to watch the SAW films. One was the utterly convoluted plot that they tried to make sense over the course of seven grisly films. The other reason was the intricate traps and brutal deaths that led to the so-called “torture porn” films of the early 2000s.

We thought that it was finished with SAW: The Final Chapter. But it looks like we were wrong (as most people are when facing Jigsaw) as Lionsgate is gearing up for another go round with the sadistic franchise.

Bloody Disgusting is reporting that the studio has hired screenwriters Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger to pen the upcoming SAW: Legacy.

The duo has had experience with horror films in the past, with turns writing Sorority Row and the two Piranha remake films. While not award winning cinema, I did enjoy the Pirahna films as dumb and harmless fun.

No director or timeframe for release has been set yet, but these films are fairly rote. Just give the fans a half-decent plot, some gory death traps and a bunch of people who deserve to die in bad ways and people will come. And with the Hunger Games franchise ending you knew it was just a matter of time before Lionsgate brushed off something tried and true in the interim of finding the next big thing.
