After playing the sly-yet-cunning President Coin in the last two Hunger Games films, Julianne Moore is still looking to put on the black hat and play the baddie in other movies.
The Hollywood Reporter says that the actress is currently in talks to play the villain in FOX’s upcoming sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service.
The article didn’t elaborate or give any character specifics, but returning star Taron Egerton did gush over the antagonist a few weeks ago, saying that it was role that even he would have loved to portray:
It’s a far more international story, we’re going to some incredible places, and we have a villain to rival Samuel L. Jackson—this new one is so brilliantly written I wish I could play it. It’s amazing.
Writer / director Matthew Vaughn is returning once again to steer this ship in the right direction. The first film was a surprise hit last year around this time, breaking the streak of bad films that the start of the year is known for. I liked the film so much I even had it in my Top Ten and said that it was the film Spectre wishes it could have been.
Moore played a fantastic villain in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and Part 2. She slowly transformed from a possible savior to someone every bit as evil as the despot they were trying to overthrow in Donald Sutherland’s President Snow. If she can go a bit over-the-top but still be malicious and conniving I have no doubt that she’d be a worthy successor to Sam Jackson’s big bad in the first film.
But this is still in the early stages. Moore reportedly has a few other projects in the pipeline that she’s looking at so it may come down to a matter of timing. We’ll have more on this as the story develops in the coming weeks.
